Asperger/Autism Angel Pin
Nathan Angel Pin
This angel was a custom
design, requested by Nathan's Mom.
My little angel is a sweet adorable eight year old boy.
He's the light of my life, and his birth was a true miracle. I was
diagnosed as infertile, and was told that I could not possibly conceive a
child without the aid of infertility drugs and treatments. I turned down
all treatments, yet I found myself with child a few months later.
Nathan is a beautiful, happy child, that fills our life
with joy. Several months ago, he was diagnosed with Autism (specifically
Asperger Syndrome, which is a high functioning form of Autism). He is very
bright, very talented, and always smiling, and he is my little angel.
He gets into trouble a lot, at school and at daycare. The
people he deals with in these places don't always see the angel that I do.
The autism can make him so hypersensitive to his environment, that he
sometimes becomes overloaded, and he tantrums. Yet, as soon as that tantrum
has passed, he becomes that sweet, adorable little boy again.
It is difficult for me to be apart from Nathan. When he
is in school or daycare, I am often worried that he might face something
overwhelming, and it pains me. How others treat him, when this happens,
isn't always kind. He is also a target for bullies.
I often keep pictures or jewelry with me, to feel as if he
is close. I wear an Autism Awareness bracelet or pin, and I have photos on
my desk and on my computer at work.
I would like to design an angel pin to represent the angel
that I have been blessed with. One that has a puzzle piece (a universal
symbol of Autism, and representative of the puzzling nature of the
disorder), to also help raise Autism Awareness.
