Kynslee was born with very serious, life-threatening and rare heart defect called Tricuspid Artesia. Her tricuspid valve did not form, therefore her right ventricle did not form, basically rendering her with half a heart.

This condition is fatal without surgical intervention. On March 27, 2008, at 4 days old, she had her first surgery, a BT shunt placement to allow blood flow to her lungs. She came home form the hospital two weeks later, only to return a week and half later with a dangerous staph infection, MRSA.

She fought through that and on November 4, 2008, at 7 months old, had her second surgery, an open heart surgery called the bi-directional Glenn, a more permanent repair that allowed blood from the upper half of her body to enter her lungs.

Then on September 22, 2011, at age three, she had her final stage, another open heart surgery called the Fontan Completion, which allows blood from the lower half of her body to flow into her lungs, greatly improving her oxygen saturations and allowing the strong, left side of her heart to rest and not become so overworked.

During this procedure, her thoracic duct was damaged, allowing fluid collections around her lungs. She is on a very low fat diet in hopes that the duct will repair itself.
