I
would like to share the story about my incredible sister, Sam.
Sam is a very talented hairdresser who was raising 2 small children after a
failed marriage. She was on her way home from a hairdresser’s convention in
Las Vegas, flying standby. While waiting for a flight, she struck up a
conversation with a man who also was waiting for a flight... .
They fell madly in love, and in 3 months Todd had moved to Minnesota to be close
to Sam. Their relationship flourished and as they were building dreams of the
future, Todd started experiencing tremendous headaches. He had a CAT scan
which detected a cancerous nasopharyngeal brain tumor, which was inoperable.
Devastating news for any age, but Todd is only 33 years old and has 2 small
children himself.
Sam dedicated herself to Todd. She was now
raising two small children, working full time, and caring for Todd. The next 9
months consisted of daily trips to the hospital for radiation and chemotherapy.
This extensive treatment took its toll on Todd. Sam never waivers of her care
or love for him, always looking for the positive and any silver lining there may
be. After he had all the radiation he can have in a lifetime and the grueling
rounds of chemo, they waited 6 weeks to find out just how successful this
treatment had been. The Doctors give Todd approximately a year to live, and his
goal is to make it to age 35. He will be 34, April 1, 2005.
I would like to name this
angel “Angel of Strength”, dedicated to my sister, Sam.
