Amanda was a tiny 2 1/2 year old foster
child that we took in, in 1996. When we first got her
everyone thought she was blind and deaf because she was so
shut down from abuse. After a short while in our care she
started to improve. Being both able to see and hear only she
was severally mentally and physically retarded. We worked so
very hard with her she started to improve dramatically. We
had some speech, she started walking and loving. We got our
first kiss after about 3-4 months. Life was super, we had
found something that made our lives complete. Helping this
little girl. We tried to adopt her at the age of 5 but with
the mother still having rights. It didn't go through until
she was 7. We started seeing a decline in her abilities
around the age of six. She lost most of her speech except of
Ma-ma, Da-e, eat and ni-ni. She ended up in a wheel chair.
All the doctors we took her to said sometimes regression
happens with these kind of kids. Not our Manda we kept
telling them. Then the seizures started around the first of
August 2003 they continued on and off for the next couple of
weeks with some ambulance rides to the emergency room. The
morning of August 29th 2003 she started seizing we took her
to the hospital to see a neurologist who after having her
tested (EEG) said she was fine and bring her back in a
couple of weeks. She passed away 3 hours later in her sleep.
We miss her so very much, it's like a big hole has been torn
out of our hearts. Can you please make an Angel to represent
her. She was such an Angel in so many ways before she passed
we know she is one now.
